Mix Ur Media Kit - APRIL Release!

April kit is absolutely LOADED with awesome products!  This month is very 'vintage' inspired and make you 'reflect' on your memories!  There are loads of Tim Holtz bits & pieces, Die Cuts, Stickers, Rub Ons, Stencil, Metal embellishments and yes...even a sewing pattern!  Please remember that each kit may be slightly different with which patterns/images you may receive.

I have a wonderful guest designer I am showcasing this month as well - allow me to introduce Monica Longard!  Monica has been a loyal customer with W2 Scrapbooking for several years and I have truly enjoyed seeing her art evolve.  Her work on this month's kit is simply amazeballs!! Circle Canvas

supplies from the kit:  clear gems, Vintage Pattern, Sticker Sheet, TH Found Relatives Cards,  Mini Round & Square Mirror Embellishments,  Regal Adornments,  Metal Hangers,  twill,  Shabby Chic Die Cuts,  and Metal Filigree embellishments

"I started off spraying and inking the canvas, using the Prima Color Bloom Sprays I got at W2 Scrapbooking, as well as the Viva Decor Rusty Paper. I then added some flakes and sprayed it with sealer. I spread out all the assorted goodies from the kit and went to work on the canvas! I took the vintage photos and tore/distressed them, and placed them (no idea how I decided where to put them - it just comes to me! LOL) I then made flowers using the vintage pattern and placed them on the canvas as well. I also used the various elements from the kit to make a little mini burlap canvas to attach to the larger canvas."

Square Canvas

"I started this canvas by ripping the 8x8 paper, distressing it and collaged them onto the canvas. I also address some joint tape on top to give them more texture. I then used Tim Holtz Distress Sprays to add color to the canvas. After that I used a wonderful Donna Downey Scribble Stencil and glitter paste to add more texture. I again used the vintage pattern to make more flowers and added them and other embellishments to finish the piece. Just a fun note - the "clock" on the page is a door knob I got at my local hardware store and had my husband saw off the back so I could use it on the piece!"

Art Journal Page

"My last project I did a journal page because I was inspired by the stencil! It came out completely different than I saw it in my head, but I am actually happier with it than I think I would have been if I had gone with my original idea!!"

"I started the pages by gessoing them, then I used my Modeling Paste and the GREAT stencil to add texture to the page. To add more texture/background I added pieces of the vintage pattern. Next, I used the great Gelatos I got from W2 Scrapbooking and using a technique I found on the Faber Castel blog, I colored the page in sections and then used water to blend the colors. I added a little spray sparkle and then sealant on the pages, after which I added the Tim Holtz Elementary Flashcards. I then used Viva Decor Modeling cream to create the "tree"! For finishing touches, I stamped some birds and a butterfly onto the instruction sheet from the pattern and also added some black (you always have to have black!!) with a Pico Writer and some pink Bo Bunny Glitter paste to accent the stencils."

She's Baaaaack!

What a great week to take over Wendy’s blog!

Thanks to her introduction of the MUM kit, I have really begun to look at my products differently, not just for my Art Journal, but in my scrapbooking as well.

I am loving the many script stencils that I have seen, which lead me to think, why can’t I create my own script using these...

I put the modeling paste in one of my fine tip squeeze bottles, added a small amount of water to get it moving and began to experiment.    I love the possibilities with this, I can do my own script, drawing, doodling, etc.   I could mix in sprays instead of water and tint the paste…oh my!   I will say there is a bit of a learning to achieve uniform lines, but that’s the fun part! 

While completing my December scrapbook I found I was searching for more gold that I had in my stash.  Gold and now Silver seem to be everywhere,  so I decided to dive into my supplies to create my own.

I love the look of vellum but how cool would it be to add some metallic to that!  I grabbed my TH brushed pewter and my HS gold lame color shine and painted them on with brush.  It took a few coats to get the depth of color, but it worked!  

Now, the vellum does wrinkle, so I find I have to layer it with a bit of paper to make it lay flat.  In the end I get a very similar effect with white paper, but it’s a quick and easy way to create all the metallic you want as you need it! 

Since I was playing with vellum, I thought I would try and tackle the ongoing issue I have with extra vellum die cuts.   I love them, but occasionally I just want a solid background.     So I grabbed my Brushed Pewter Distress Stain and Claudine Hellmuth Blank Canvas and painted it on the back of a piece of vellum to see what would happen. 

The stain didn’t give me a deep enough color, but the white was perfect and I can see myself using this technique to use up my vellum.

Finally, while  I was scrapbooking I wanted a teal accent on my page so I grabbed my Heidi Swapp Teal Color Shine,  but I wanted some structure to the accents, not splatters, so I decided to  mixed it with Super Heavy Gel Medium.  I then used a palette knife and stenciled it on some papers.   It starts opaque, but once it’s dry it is the exact color of the color shine but with dimension I was looking for.    

So while you are crafting next time, I hope you take a moment and mix things up, the results can be amazing!  Until next time, B Crafty,

More March 'MUM' Inspiration...

Butterfly Garden:

This next project was a fun one for me...I would say it is pretty much inspired by Marta of Maremi SmallArt.  This lady really gets my creativity juices going.

This paper is a cold press water color, I have used Light Modeling Paste with one of my new fave Prima Designer Stencil Daisies (6x6").

Once dired, I splatter Lindy's Stamp Gang Sprays (green, yellow & blue) and add water to disperse.

So love how they react.  The colors are truly magical.

Knowing the page needs more, I use the same sprays and ink up the 6x6" Filigree sheet from the kit.

Tear it up and adhere to the open spaces (top left corner and bottom right corner).

Inking up the four butterflies that are included in the kit, I spray and dab the same colors I used on the page.  Once dried, I attach each using Glossy Accents.

Once attached, I mold the butterfly wings up, it is like they are flying on the page.  I then add some of the pearls from the kit onto the filigree paper. 

 

Great page, even if I do say so myself!

Living Canvas:

Here I have used the Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements 6x6" Fabric, cut it up using a pair of pinking shears into random sizes and incorporated a few pieces of the Finnabair Elementals Canvas Resist that was still left.  This one was inspired by a video on You Tube (sorry, will have to go looking for it to give credit).  Hers was done with paper, mine...fabric - why not?!  I adhered it all down with Ranger/Claudine Hellmuth's Multi Medium.

Once it was totally dried, I applied Gesso using my brayer and palette knife.

Thinking I will try something different this time (well, okay not totally different, just a different product) going to try the Heidi Swapp Color Shine as water colors...wish me luck!

I find that if I give the page a good dose of water before applying color, I can usually get my desired effect. Usually you ask?  Stay tuned!

Not at all happy with the color results.  Having done this now, I am pretty sure that I know where I went wrong.  I did not apply enough gesso.  I should have put a thicker 'cover' over the fabric.  I may even try using Clear Gesso next time and then use some coordinating colors for the fabric.  What is the worse that can happen?!  So for now, let's see if I can salvage it....

Time for some more texture (layers).  Using one of my Prima Finnabair Elementals Stencil 'Netting' I add Light Modeling Paste with my palette knife.

Once dried, I amp up the color using Dylusions Ink Spray 'Postbox Red'

continue to use the Heidi Swapp Color Sprays and spritz with water to allow colors to spread/seep down the crevasses.
