Journal52 #4

On a roll here...this one was a fun one.  Again took me a few days to get my groove going on it.  The challenge was 'abstract' but after reading some of the posters correct people on exactly what abstract was...I must say I got a tad offended.  Really, since when is there a right or wrong way to YOUR interpretation of a prompt let alone art.  Anyhoo, that is my two cents...onto some fun stuff now.

My color palette...

is this a sign of what is to come?

I'm okay with it so far! Just used a wet brush and also sprayed the page with water and blended away.

this was a two part process, I used India Ink and a paint brush to drag the ink across the top of the page first and then tilted the entire book up and literally banged in on the desk top to force the drips to the top of the page.  Waited for it to dry and then came back to it about 2 hours later and did the same below (in reverse of course).

once they were all dry, I mixed some Weathered Wood Distress Paint with my Liquitex Light Modeling Paste  and spread it over a stencil I have (thinking it was a Simon Says one).  You will note seeing scrapbook paper under the stencil, that was simply to mask off the journal page so I didn't go (too far) outside my already inked lines!

here is the first result after the stencil has been taken off.

here are the rest, going across the page...

added some more ink along the edges and tilted down, somehow it bleed up...I'm OK with that!

here I added some color to the center by dabbing the Distress Paints to three of the circles (from left to right - Evergreen Bough, Aged Mahogany & Iced Spruce).  I also used a Kaisercraft Texture Stamp Graffiti to randomly stamp parts of it on the page and of course had to added my Black Gelato to to darken it up and give it an edge.

This is the definition of abstract I took out of my dictionary.  I really wanted to print it on the page backwards, but was simply too impatient!  I used my Black Brush Pitt Pen to write with.

wrote a question along one of the drips...

emphasized the word 'exist' along the edge of the page...

here are a couple more shots...

This is where I got my inspiration for this layout!

Journal52 #3

Well I have been working on this page on an off for the week, do not think I am totally finished with it yet, but that is the glory of this type of creativity - you can walk away at any time and choose to come back at any time...it just doesn't matter!

Here goes... My color palette:

Trying real hard to get that perfect red...getting there, think I used just about every shade of red I had in my arsenal (even added some Red Pepper Alcohol ink to get the richness I was after).  I think what is bothering me the most is that the black atound the heart is simply too thick for my liking.  Of well...I'll survive!

Here I attempted to use black gesso on a intricate damask stencil...not a great turn out (close up anyway)...but it will have to do!

Below - thought it was about time I added some 'paper' to my journal...it's been a while since I have been on a paint kick for a while!  The pages are from Glitz Designs, Color Me Happy Paper Layers. Added some Feathered Peacock Distress Ink Re-Inker and then sprayed with some water to dilute and spread.  There is also a bit of Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink Re-Inker on there as well.  Paper edges were distressed and then inked using (you guessed it) Tim Holtz Distress Ink Gathered Twigs!

You will also see that I added a stencil - Donna Downey's Prima Turkish Grunge.  I used Liquitex's Modeling Paste (very heavy & thick) mixed with black paint...must say, not may favorite application for an art journal page.  But am now reading that I can sand it...hmmmm!

The circles you are seeing are simply the lid from the Distress Paints dipped in it's own color (in this case, fired brick).

Here are a few more close up after some water was added to make a 'mess'!

notice what I emphasized on the page?

as it stands now....

This is where I got the inspiration for this page.
